With your rig you can fish the current better because you have the trolling motor to slow you down. I run my little Alumacraft down there and the current whisks it downstream pretty quick.
You have to wear life vest from around 800 feet out to the base of dam. I think the first white sign on the bank or the electrical towers in the water are a good starting point. Watch out for the other guys and the folks on the bank.
It's a good place to catch smallmouths too, but I don't target them specifically but have caught a couple here and there on small lizards or worms fishing points downstream.
