I saw an Alligator in the Tennessee River two weeks ago today. It was at the following GPS coordinates.
34° 33' 06"N, 86° 46' 43"W (NAD83/WGS84)
It was approximately 8-10 feet in length and was near shore. It sat still for 15 mintues until a boat came by. It submerged and I never saw it again.
I was in a automobile parked on the bank at 12 noon.
It had been cool a few nights before and the Blackwell Swamp is still very shaded. It was near shore in shallow water near where they have put out the big rocks to prevent errosion. I assume it was out there trying to warm up ?
What might say is that in early fall when it starts to get cooler, it is possible that they will venture out of the swamp into the main river to warm up ??
