add 1 cup of rock salt per 10 gallons of water. The tanks made from plastic barrels will work for a while, but you will eventually notice a fall-off in the friskiness of your bait. When i used the plastic barrel, i bought a $30 12V air pump (like a pro-air) and dropped an air stone in the tank. You have to change out water frequently or ammonia will build up and kill the shad. I found that the air pump alone worked better than using the bilge pump - the pump was always getting clogged up with scales or other debris that fell out of the net. If you don't mind spending money, that grayline tank is a cadillac. I have kept shad alive for a week in mine. I have also killed them in less than an hour.
