Wait 10 months and throw a 3 inch 1/2-1 oz sassy shad. You might be able to catch them first thing in the morning until just about the time the sun comes up fishing topwater with big jerk baits. You will know if they are feeding on the surface. I have never figured out where they go in the summer, but I have read it is related to oxygen which is related to temperature. However, at certain nominal depths, often reported as 10+ feet, with no mixing, oxygen can be depleted also. However, when the river is flowing, there will be mixing. This depth is generally related to ponds where oxygen depletion begins in as little as 10+ feet.
