Having been hanging around this website for 5-6 years, I can tell you that there is much information already here if you can to search for it. Many of the same questions come up year after year. Alex has been kind enough to answer many questions over the years so search for his name. Also, Check out his Shellcracker article in the "Articles by ..." link at the top of the NAFF home page. I believe it contains some good philosophical information on the basics.
In my opinion... and this is a wild guess... I think the peak has passed for a novice such as myself. However, some warm weather will bring willow fly hatches and concentrate bream from time to time. Also, you might want to try deep under bridges when the water temps begin to heat up, though I have also found them stacked deep in later winter as the water begins to warm.
