I've had an absolute ball using a flippin' rod with heavy line, a decent size sinker, and a large treble hook. You watch for the carp, cast beyond and ahead of the direction they are swimming, and wait for the fish to swim over your line. It is tricky to time the hookset while the fish are under your line, but I promise you once
you hang into one of these 15-20 pounders in its side, you'll think you've snagged a freight train!
I've had a johnboat towed for 40-50 yards before getting the fish next to the boat.
Please check local and state rules and regs before trying this, but I don't believe the grass carp are protected as gamefish.
