The Shoals Area Crappie Association is starting their new season. The 2005-2006 season is finished and the new season starts with a meeting Monday Night, May 22nd and a tournament the following Saturday May 27th on Wheeler out of Joe Wheeler first creek ramp.
To promote awareness of crappie fishing as a major sport. To improve our skills as crappie anglers through fellowship and friendly exchange of expert techniques and ideas. To promote and encourage youth fishing and a love for this great recreation.
The new season starts with a few new rule changes. One change is on any TN river lake tournament, you may launch from anywhere. You must be in the weigh in line by 4pm. This should even out the playing feild for everyone with any kid of boat.
Another change is we are having a points race this season, as well as a team of the year race. THe points race will be just that. If you attend a meeting (teams) you receive a bonus piont, and whatever place you finish, you recieve points for that, such as first place receives 15 points, 2nd 14 points, 3rd 13 points, and so on.
The team of the year is the team with the highest amount of weight from their best 3 tournaments. We will have 10 tournaments this season, and the team with the most weight on their BEST 3 weigh-ins is the team of the year.
The SACA has great sponsors. We just gave away $360 worht of door prizes at our banquet last Monday night. We gave away 2 12 foot rods, an all star rod, and a shakespeare rod. WE gave away tackle packs, a trolling battery from Holt's radiator, dvd's from Russ Baily's Midwest Crappie show, teezur jigs, "Crappie Secrets" books from TIm Huffman, and many other things. Milner Rushing is another sponsor that gets us $150 at nearly every tournament. We give away tackle boxes, marker bouys, mfrabil minnow buckets, electric filet knifes, and many other things. You pay an entry fee, but nearly everyone takes something home as a door prize.
Even if you feel you live too far away, and wont get to fish many tournaments, or just don't know anybody in the club, you will still benifit. We have members that are good at several different types of fishing techniques. We have some who tightline, some who long line troll, verticle jig, live bait only, artificial only, and one who does nothing but troll crankbaits and is a genious at it. We have people from Tn, Mississippi, and Alabama. We have folks from Huntsville, Decatur, Athens, Booneville, and all around north Alabama. The lakes we fish are Wheeler, Wilson, Pickwick, Cedar, and Little Bear. We fish each one twice a year. Here is our tournament schedule. We have open tournaments that allow anyone to fish, membership not required.
May 27 Wheeler
June 24 Little Bear

September 30 Wilson
October 28 Cedar
November 25 Wheeler (open)
