I don't get much chance to fish anymore with work taking up most of my time. However, I did get to try a little bit after work today from the bank around Decatur.
Only had time to try a couple of spots, but I did find some shellcrackers on bed. I caught around 20 or so using a blue "judge" minnow fishing in 6 to 14 inches of water. The "judge" minnow is similar to the "Keystone" minnow, but much cheaper.
Most of the fish were not large enough for me to consider keeping, but one was about 3/4 pound. The area I found them in was small and I exhausted the fish in a short time, but it did let me know that they are on bed and anyone with a boat and a little knowledge of shellcracker behavior should be able to limit out on Wheeler with very good sized redear sunfish and probably some good sized bluegill as well now.
Wish I had more time to go after them!
Good luck and good fishin'
