I've heard stories of hatchery trucks dumping stripers in the lower end of Wheeler Lake. I have not personally witnessed this, but the stories seemed to be credible. I don't doubt that some fish spawn in Paint Rock, the Elk or the Flint rivers for that matter. Mother nature always seems to find a way ... or that's what they said in Jurassic Park anyway. ;)
On a side note, I've had several days below Guntersville Dam where I've caught and released 20 or more stripers between 8 - 25 pounds ... most of them weighing in the teens. There are plenty of stripers in the upper reaches of Wheeler to go around, provided we keep the poachers in check. Actually, Guntersville Lake has a pretty big population of stripers too, but I'm not telling where I catch 'em. ;)
