I agree that the big ones need to be released but we do have creel limits that allow people to keep two "over" fish per day. Obviously the DNR still releases thousands of those little boogers every year. I always seem to catch several dozen of the young stocker stripers in the 10"-15" size range every year.
The hybrids always show up before the big stripers show up in packs. The 10 degree drop in water temp we had the past couple of weeks has had a negative impact on the striper fishing. The striper action will pick up soon!
If you see someone keeping more than their limit of 2 big stripers ... call Operation Game Watch at 1-800-272-4263. Be sure to get a description of the people, their boat registration number and/or their vehicle tag number before you call. I'll drop a dime on a poacher in a heartbeat!
