The FACTS I originally stated still hold true:
1) Four stroke outboards are unproven over the long haul simply because they haven't been around long enough. THOUSANDS of hours not hundreds .... remember? A properly cared for 2 stroke can easily last for decades and still perform like new. My dad ran a 1958 Mercury Mark 25 (red and white) in both fresh and saltwater until the early 1980's.
2) More moving parts mean more things to break or require adjustments. An ABSOLUTE FACT!
The power/torque to weight ratio will always be in the two stroke engines favor, which is critical in smaller to mid sized engines.
Everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion ... I've stated my case and no one can poke holes in it "as stated". In a few years I may sing a different tune as to their reliability ... but for now I'll hmmmmm along with my two stroke.
