Red, we caught the cats in the 1940ís while trolling for bass using a Colorado spinner trailed with a four inch piece of pork rind, we made our own pork strips during WWII because it was not available on the commercial market.
Most Paddle Fish, we called them spoon bill cats, weighed about 8 #. What a fight.
Used a Heddon steel rod and cotton braided line if you were lucky you might find nylon line for sale. The cotton would rot or mildew if you did not unwind from the reel spool.
The very good old days.
