Well the rep who told you that must've been someone hired off the street. I wish when someone was hired into a company they were instant experts...however that's not the case. If you'll compare the two units (X135 and Fishmark 480)...they have the same resolution..that your rep was right about. However...the fishmark unit is pretty weak in power at 1500 watts peak to peak versus the X135's 4000 watts peak to peak. That rep didn't know and/or use his company's products. When you have a low power unit it sends a weaker signal to the bottom which translates to less of the signal returning back up for your transducer to decipher. The Lowrance unit is FAR superior. I wouldn't have thrown away $400 on it if that were not the case. The Cabelas product specialist I talked with agreed as did all the information I found when researching this subject on the web. If you just want to know the depth....no big deal...but if you're trying to find schools of baitfish etc....you "need" the higher power unit.
