Another myth is that driving with your tailgate down gives better mileage. WRONG Trucks were designed with aerodynamics in mind. When they are first designed...they are run through a wind tunnel...hood to tailgate is "tuned" so to speak...and when you lower that tailgate...it creates turbulence that wasn't designed to be there and actually might drop your mileage a "hair"...not saying you'll get 2 or 3 less mpg...but by dropping it you do increase wind resistance. Ever layed down in the back of a pickup bed while it's going down the road?
