I tend to doubt that. I've heard it said for years that the flint used to be a great smallmouth river until farming, but trout as far as I know have never existed natively in most North Alabama streams. If there are some exceptions, maybe the sipsey or some of the creeks running off those high mountains in north east alabama had trout. The old timers could have been recalling stocked trout, we're close enough probably that you could try to stock trout in some of these streams, have them take hold for a while, and then have them all die out with a couple hot summers. The only native trout in the southeast anyways are brook trout, rainbows and browns are by definition not natives.
