Honestly some of my best fishing days are in the summer. I troll crankbaits, usually bandits, and curl tail jigs and catch a lot of 10-11 inch crappie in the BCDA lakes (little bear, upper bear, Cedar). I know these same techniques have to work in the Tenn river. The fish hang out on the same structure as pre-spawn except they school up and chase shad. Often where you find stripes you will find crappie underneath or closer to structure. Early morning is the best times. I plan to try night fishing this year. WIll let you know how I do. That would be the best way to beat the heat.
Tightlines to ya
