I usually backpack the Sipsey wilderness a couple of times in the spring, but I haven't been this year since I backpacked 7 days at Cumberland Island (sorry, didn't get an opportunity to fish, but hear that it's great there). Last year in the Sipsey I was able to catch small 1 lb or so spotted bass pretty easily on a small spinner. But the fish I could actually see wouldn't take anything. The water in the Sipsey is very clear and the fish are wiley as all get out. Since I wondered if the fish were actually bass I even tried to pull a hook into one from sight. Thought it very strange to see bass that were both so reluctant to bite and unwilling to spook easily.
I haven't tried many baits in the Sipsey since I haven't found an easy way to pack in my 10 lb tackle box. Some live bait floated to the fish in the current might be worth a try. Be sure to watch for snakes around there.
Good fishing and God bless!
