No, bream were not named after Sid Bream, Sid Bream was named after bream.

I take bream to mean any variety of sunfish or panfish that is similar to a bluegill. So you have pumpkinseed, bluegill, shellcracker and possible warmouth which are all fairly similar species of fish.

So shellcracker is a type of bream, probably the 2nd most popular type to fish for.
