The charges were dropped because the gillnetter was subsequently arrested for being involved in an international turtle poaching ring. It turns out that he wasn't the clean cut law abiding citizen he claimed to be ... or that "some people" thought he was.
Dustin was not aware he was breaking the law. He thought he was removing a navigation hazzard from the lake.
The poacher knew good and well what he was doing was wrong because he bought a license to operate as a commercial netter. The rules and regulations governing his activity are available for everyone who buys the commercial license. Commercial netting SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED in any of the Tennessee River lakes PERIOD!!!
I say they should hang the poacher by the thumbs for a day or two in 90+ degree heat, while pelting him with BB's from a low powered Red Ryder BB gun. I would be glad to donate a few thousand BB's for the cause.
