Had planned for about a week or so to take my 5 and 9 yr old daughters to the lake to do some panfishing, figured that the bream would be pretty catchable as they usually are by the end of the month. Unfortunately, temps have been below average for the most part for the last 2 weeks, and today seemed more like early March than late April... temp was hard pressed to get to 60, cloudy, and the winds were 10-20 out of the NW, which kept us in our little slough off of Spring Creek. Water temp was only 61-62. Tried a combination of crickets fished about 2 ft under a float, and a black beetle on a 1/16 white jighead, also a baby bass colored Assassin. My 9 yr old caught the only fish, a 10" crappie, on the beetle. Twenty minutes later they were ready to go, and I've learned that's when it's time to quit.. I'm ready for some nice weather! Just as an aside, tried today for the first time the Quantum/Bill Dance UL underspin combo...very nice for $30.
