I have used the circle hooks in the salt and have found to get a good hookset consistently you need to bump up a few sizes on the hook dont be afraid of a 10/0 I have caught a 10 lb redfish with a 10/0 and then turned around and caught a 50lb shark. Also use a lighter wire to get better penetration some circles are designed for billfish and tuna that destroy tackle with a shake of the head ;a blue is no slouch but a lighter wire hook may help your odds too.
That hook has got to catch and roll into that big ole' gum to get set or else it will just pop right out; pay close attention to the gap between the point and the eye of the hook and make sure
its open enough for your fish's jaw.
I like circles when I know I am going after fish I dont want to harm and I am confident I will get a lot of bites but I still like to cross their eyes too much to give up standard hooks.
I also agree with the other guys a kahle is a good compromise between the "gut hooks" and "no hook at all hooks".
