All over North Alabama the crappie are spawning and have been for about a week, at least. The males, white and black, are showing strong signs of spawning activity. They look like they have been dipped in charcoal dust!
Work shallow areas, especially those with some kind of structure such as grass, rocks, wood, etc, etc...
Minnows, jigs, even on fly rod. I have had crappie hitting my cork several times.
Which lake? Any of them. Pickwick, Wilson, Wheeler, Guntersville, Weiss, you name it. In many ponds the temps came up high enough for the spawn a few weeks ago and some are just now reaching the proper temps.
In any case, if you want to catch crappie and were waiting for the right time. Don't wait too much longer.
Good luck and good fishin'
