Both responses above are good advice. Late March can be great if the weather is right. As Steve said, June does produce some good tournament strings (best 5 over 20-lbs). However, the bites can be fewer and getting the right 5 can be a job. I guide full time on the lake. The last few years, early April through early may have been the most consistant for both size and numbers. That's been both for my clients and in the tournaments I fish. The weather is usually stable, the grass is getting up and the top-water bite is strong. Fish stay shallow and the Weekly tournaments last April took from 18 to 25-lbs to win with many 3-lb plus fish caught. The really big fish (10lbs+) most often come from December through early March but, during the April-May time frame we see plenty in the 6-7lb+ class. Good luck and put them back.
