As I have learned, to my incredible dismay, nets do not have to be clearly marked to be legal. They can be labled with anything, and according to what I heard in Montgomery, they don't even have to have a float. They can be marked with a tag on the net with no visible or legible float at all.
Dustin removed the net because it was a navigational hazard. Apparently unmarked navigational hazards are legal in Alabama.
What was so insane about the deal is the way he was arrested. Don't try to let on like the police don't have discression in how and where they make an arrest. There is no doubt in my mind that they don't like bass anglers, and that they did everything they could to embarrass Dustin and fishermen infront of a national crowd. There is no doubt in my mind at all.
Apparently the intent by the police was to anger the entire angling society. That was certainly acheived.
