Gill netters "say" that they put out the nets at night to keep out of the way of day time boaters, but I counter that night time is the perfect cover to put out illegal gill nets and also illegally keep the game fish killed in the nets without witnesses.
I have been told, but have not verified, that there are only about 11 licensed gill netters in this area, maybe the state??? Not sure.
If this is true, then they sure do cover a HUGE area for that small number of people and given the huge area where gill nets can be found, I don't think there is any way they can attend all those nets within legal limits. As I said, I am not certain right now, but I will look up the applicable laws in the code of Alabama and DCNR regulations.
