Thanks for the advice. I went to the Deep south fly shop here in B'ham and they pretty much told me the same thing. I purchased 6 different flies. a couple o wooly boogers, a nymph, and a Dragonfly imitation, and something that looks like a rainbow fry. Also 1 chartruce fluffy thingie that the guy at the shop said the bass/sunfish would line up to hit. Gave a couple of them a try but the mechanics of my cast leave a lot to be desired. Spent more time untangling my tippet from the line. After an hour or so i got to where i wasn't beating the water to a froth and had a few decent casts that actually went where i wanted. My buddy was fishing conventional tackle and caught a Rock bass and a small bream. Aside from hooking myself a time or two i struck out. You don't learn if you don't try........ I can't wait to get my first fish on a fly.
