Hey Rob,

I can't tell you much about all the "new" offerings in depth finders as I haven't used them.

I will suggest that you may want to stick with what you are familiar. I have found that I trust my little portable Eagle FisherFinder 128 (similar to the Lowrance x22a) more than many of the other graphs I have used on other boats. Of course, a lot of that is because I have used my portable for a long time and have become familiar with not only how it works, but also when it is giving me false readings.

There are certainly newer and maybe better models out there (mostly just more bells and whistles that I will never use, IMO), but I am always happy to bring my little portable along when fishing with others because I understand it and trust it.

Just my $.02

Good luck and good fishin'

Kerry

P.S.

Stay away from the Cuda series. A friend purchased one (not sure of model number) and it has never worked properly. Shoddy materials/workmanship I suspect.
