TVA Lowering Lake Levels As Heavy Rain Moves In
posted September 15, 2004

TVA is lowering levels at Chickamauga Lake and other reservoirs as Hurricane Ivan heads north.

The remnants of the hurricane are expected to bring up to eight inches of rain to Chattanooga in the next few days.

The rain is set to begin later today.

TVA is spilling water at Fort Loudon and Watts Bar reservoirs as well as Chickamauga.

Officials said lake levels are being lowered by 1 1/2 feet to 2 feet below normal summer levels.

TVA is also spilling on the main river reservoirs at Nickajack Lake and at Guntersville and Pickwick and at the Douglas tributary dam.

A TVA advisory warned those with structures on the water to "pay close attention to reservoir levels during the weekend."

The advisory said, "Because of heavy rainfall, which Ivan could bring into the Tennessee Valley, reservoir levels could rise very quickly."

(I would assume that this will dominoe down the line in the lakes)
