Went out Friday with CPT Jack Wilhite on the Summer Hunter out of SanRoc Cay Marina in Orange Beach. We took a 12 hour charter targeting grouper and amberjack. We limited on some nice jacks in the 35-40 lbs range. We caught plenty of big red grouper as well as scamps. Additionally, we did catch some big red snapper and triggers out there. Because we were out 40 miles, we trolled out and in. We picked up seven really nice King macs (40lbs ea, big females full of eggs), as well as two really nice Wahoo, and one Spanish for fun! Probably had at least 450 lbs of fish for the trip. Game dept did check the catch at the docks/cleaning station for legal size and quantities. I also suspect that we were approached by an undercover guy who wanted to buy some fish from us at the cleaning station. Beware of those offers because it is illegal to sell your fish unless you have a commercial license and this also jeopardizes your charter captain too. Obviously we did not sell any fish and told the guy no way. But, beware that is the game being played in Orange beach these days. If you want to catch some good fish CPT Wilhite can put you on fish. His boat does not have as many amenities as other big charters, but he does put you on the fish!
