I fish out of Ditto every now and then. It can be fun.
I like live minnows (threadfin shad if I can find them) for bait best of all, because the fish seem to enjoy them. There are pretty good populations of spotted bass in that area, the occasional nice smallmouth, occasional redeyed bass, striped bass, catfish, largemouth, catfish, and my personal favorite, drum. Minnows will get them all. Oops, I almost forgot bream, jacks, and crappie. And gar, my other specialty.
In my limited experience, the fishing seems to be better whenever the current is running in this part of the river. The fish seem to bunch up better around structure and get more active.
There is a nice eddy in front of the first big bluff downstream of the dam on the Madison county side. Good fishing in this area, plus there are usually some bald eagles hanging around that you can watch.
Have fun, let us know what you find.
