How big was the pond? It is rare to see a healthy pond with crappie. Based on my research, I believe the state recommends a minimum of 50 acres before stocking crappie. I guess if you don't harvest the bass, they will have a field day with small stunted crappie until the day they day. I have caught large crappie in small ponds, but only one and only once. I recall once reeling in a small crappie in a pond and a monster bass boiling under it just as I was taking it out of the water. I think it is good for bass growth, just not good for reproduction since the abundant crappie eat the bass eggs. At least that is my understanding. And minnows... I hope the pond owner did not mind. Use only tuffies because shiners can mess up a pond too. I am not sure if tuffies and fat head minnows that you buy for stocking are the same?
Anyone have experience with ponds and crappie?
