After experiencing the frustration of losing so many rigs to hangups, I finally used this setup.
I spooled the reel with 14 lb Berkley Fireline, but you can use any number of the new braids or superlines, I suppose. Then to that tie about an
18" length of 8 lb. mono or flourocarbon leader with a swivel in between. Then right BELOW the swivel(on the leader) crimp your split shot and tie the hook to mono. That way if you hang up, the worst you lose is the weight and hook and you won't significantly weaken your line by continually pulling to beak off.
Make sure to carry about 10-12 pre-tied leaders
with you and plently of split shot as well. Hope this helps!
