Backyard Bait Pond

Big project, but.... Why not dig a 12 foot diameter by 3 foot deep circular pond, with a poured concrete bottom and block walls....lined....and with a 4" thick foam "lid" of some type. Put a circulation and aeration system in it. Put obstacles in it. Put about 10,000 gizzard shad in there and feed them.

The idea is to get shad when the "gettin is good" in December/January and hold them through the warm months.

The ground-coupled bait pond with insulated top would maintain a water temperature of about 62 degrees and should fairly-well make the bait happy.

Big idea. Any comments????
