It seems like some kings are caught from the pier in May. I would try fishing from the beach with frozen shrimp or squid. Use a medium spinning outfit, a #4 gold Aberdeen hook, and about 1/4 to 1/2 oz wt., egg sinkers, Carolina style, about a 15" leader. Stand at the edge of the water, sling 'er out, and bring 'er back slow. Long casts are not necessary. Most whiting, the preferred catch, are caught within 30 feet of the water's edge. Also, be observant and ask around about what's biting. Your best source of info will be the state pier. Pay the money to go out, observe, and ask some of the old salts there for advice. They'll be glad to help. That's what they live for. Good Luck.
