Many years ago I went with a cousin to Wheeler Dam when dozens were on the wall snagging whatever they could. On occasion, someone would snag a skipjack. They really cut up, as we all know. My cousin snagged a large Skipjack using a large weighted treble hook. As he was raising the fish out of the water, the hook tore free and flew up into the air. It landed several feet to our right. We heard one guy say "Is this your hook"? It had landed on him and penetrated his upper and lower lip. He wasn't mad, but concerned over the bleeding, he too quickly packed up and left.
From then on, anytime someone hooked a Skipjack, everyone would stop and watch until it was landed or lost.
