Steve, jojo is correct about the net alteration made by cast net shrimpers. I have seen several who modify their nets using duct tape in place of vinyl webbing, etc. The duct tape is run around the circumference of the net's exterior about an inch or two above the lead. Then, they turn the net inside out and do the same around the interior circumference. I have tried this method when throwing for shrimp in 30 + ft. water and it works reasonably well; but, let me tell you, you'll have one heck of a mess on your hands if you ever want to take the duct tape off! To see what I mean, put two pieces of duct tape sticky side to sticky side, get it wet, and then try to pull them apart.
