Nope...didn't lubricate when I installed the impeller. Sounds like a good idea, though. I'll grease her up this next time.
Plans are to take it apart again...but this time removing the gaskets and looking for trash hidden underneath.. and making sure there's a clear path from the water pickup holes to the pump inlet.
Also, I'm going to check the gasket beneath the line-up tube to make sure I'm getting a decent seal where the big tube inserts into the top of the pump housing.
I still think the impeller is spinning on the shaft. I'll mark it somehow before I take it apart. perhaps I'll stick some shim stock behind the key to make it all fit a bit tighter. Couldn't make it any worse than it is now. The fit between the drive shaft and impeller ain't so great.
