you are 100% correct about useing the lower octane if your vehicle runs fine on it.. octane rating goes hand in hand with whatever the compression rato is in a paticular engine, the higher the compression rato the higher the octane that is needed. thats why nascar engines need 108 octane.. anyway, for outboards motors i have always been told that mid-grade gas has less oxygen in it and thats why it should be used,, but of coarse,, thats just what i've herd. i wouldnt know this to be a fact,, in reality,, if the real truth was told probally wouldnt matter.... :-) ........
