I will not even imply that I am an expert on motors, but I have a couple of things you might check.

If you have a metal gas tank, you may have water in the gas. Did you flush out the gas tank and put FRESH fuel in it? Also, if the mixture is supposed to be 50:1, then the 20:1 mixture may be gumming up the carbs. If the gas tank is metal and old, you may have rust built up in it and that would probably plug a fuel filter. Get a new gas tank. Also, you may need a carb kit, but not sure. The motor is 25 years old, so the possibilities of probable problems are numerous.

In any case, use the link I gave at iboats.com to ask further questions as they seem to have a "boat load" of folks who know a lot more than I do about outboard motors! I was only able to post the information because I did a search on google.com for "1979 johnson 100".

Good luck and good fishin'

Kerry
