Yesterday (Monday) I fished the big bridge and the Warrenton causeway bridge @ hwy 69. I was hoping to beat the cold front, but the cold air beat me to Guntersville. It was amazingly warmer in Huntsville even after I got back home.
No luck at hwy 431 bridge, but I did not use any heavy jigs. I tried light jigs and minnows and had no takers in the relatively swift current.
There were tons of shad schooling around the warrenton causeway with gulls having a field day. I thought my fish finder was sending a wacky signal until I figured out there were so many shad in the area. I fished minnows and jigs from 1/32 to 1/4 ounce with every combination in between.
I am not sure how a bass assasin jig or tuffy minnow can compete with multiple schools of shad larger than my boat. I think I am gonna take a break until we have some days in the 60's. Maybe we will have some super cold weather to kill some of those shad!!
