I collect rods and reels like some men collect guns. I can honestly say the best spinning reel for the money is a Shimano Stradic. There is no comparison for the money. The number of ball bearing is not a good indicator of the performance of the reel. The worm gear is very important too. Shimano makes the very best. The Stradic has only five ball bearing , but I will put it up against most with 10. I do not represent the Shimano Company in anyway. Get a 1000 for crappie, bluegill,trout, sauger, or finesse fishing for bass. Get a 2500 series for larger fish. Trust me on this one. I have several of my buddies sold on this reel when they use mine. My second choice would be a best quality Quantum. Quantum has made excellent strides in their reels. Sorry, don't think I would choose a Mitchell product.
