If you are located near the Florence area, I used to buy good lead at Roberson Scrap Metals Co. in the East Florence area on Canal Street. Someone mentioned plumber's lead, that is about the best I found, or some of the scrap thin sheet lead, depending on what they had at the time. Usually, you have to melt it down in a big pot and clean it up, and pour it into smaller ingots. I used an aluminum cup cake pan for forming ingots. A Coleman camp stove works good to melt it down. As for the price, it has been a few years since I bought lead, but I usually gave around 35 cents/pound. I have no idea what it sells for now.
