I weighed and measured one for a guy about 12 years ago that was 7 3/4 # (24" long). I saw a picture of one weighed in at Broadview Grocery that was 16 1/2 # ... I think. Both were brown trout. I've never caught one over 3 3/4 # and I used to fish it hard for years. I saw a huge brown several years ago that was a minimum of 10 # maybe 15 #, but couldn't get the hook jawed monster to bite. Most of the trout you'll catch there are stocker rainbows from 10"-14" ... just a little larger than the fish below Lewis Smith Dam on the Sipsey River in Alabama. The Elk is best fished from a flat bottom jon boat or canoe while floating a section of the river, however that requires two vehicles. It is an enjoyable float that provides beautiful scenery and an abundance of wildlife ... just don't get your hopes up for big trout. They are few and far between.
