Anyone familiar with replacement of the "plug in" type trailer lights? Couldn't find exact replacement, so had to buy one withou and cut the wires below the plug in and then connect them w/one another. Ground was connected between tag holder nuts and trailer frame. Would this present a problem.
Problem came after trailer hadn't been connected to towing vehicle for six months or so. First off, blew the fuse. Replaced it, and it blew again. Everything on car was fine when trailer disconnected. Then, w/car running, again connected trailer. No fuse was blown, but now there are no turn signal lights on car. Strangely, running lights on trailer work w/car head lights on. Brake lights on car and trailer are fine. Maybe the turning lamp elements on both right and left are shot? Or, would both not work if only one does? Is the flasher necessary for the turning lamps to even come on? Suppose flasher (heavy duty) could also be shot?
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Did notice at first that, when turn signal was utilized at first, battery charge/discharge gauge needle would jump with each on/off of the turn lamps.
