I was wondering what, if anything, is the difference between a NEW moon and a CRESCENT moon. Is a new moon the dark of the moon? (If so, then obviously a new moon and a crescent moon are different.) The questions arise because I have been playing an on-line trivia game which this week featured a question concerning the Moslem fast of Ramadan and when it starts and ends. One answer was on the new moon and another was on the crescent moon. I found the choice confusing and hoped you might be able to provide some clarification. Thank you very much for any help you provide on this answer. By the way, I found your site through "Ask Jeeves," so I don't actually have your URL, would you please e-mail me with it? Thanks again, Nancy Crawford

I love your site. It's in my favorites file and I check for evenys every month. One thing you need to chage is the millenium date. When the calendar started it was with the year 1. not 0. therefore 1999 is the1,999 year and 2000 is the 2,000 year. Since the next millenium can't start until 2.000 years have past it will start January 1, 2001. could you please give some hints on viewing the Persied meteor showers. Thanks. Jim

I was really going into your site for information on camera lens, but I was fascinated with the pictures you have taken. I printed them out and showed my physical science teacher, and I got 50 extra points!!! Thanks so much for posting these pictures. If you have any information on different kinds of lens, please e-mail me as soon as possible, and if you can, before Wednesday. Thanks again.

i have heard a great deal about you and that you are a very fine man, looking fine and acting fine. i know that this must be so because two ladies i know are two ladies that you know as well. I just don't understand how the three of you can come from the same family. these two girls are NUTS. but i think a lot of them both. Be nice to them or SANTA won't come to see you this year.

I got your link from Steve's page. Really enjoyed your astrophotos. Good job! Cool swirly mouse thing too. Haven't seen that anywhere else. Sorry about the light pollution near you. It's getting worse here too. Used to be people came here to star gaze. Now I go elsewhere (when I can). If only the electric would go out on a clear moonless night! Well save a star - kill a light!
