Good site! I just bought a JamCam, and I enjoyed seeing the pictures other people took. The "Moon & Stars" pix are great! I don't care for the Java pop-ups though, because that keeps me from downloading more than one picture at a time.

Hello Keith, I find your material very informative and fas- cinating! Hope you don't mind that I am giving a talk on the symbolism and worship of the moon, and using some of your material. It's going to be for the local branch of the American Theosophical Society later this month. I would like to pass on to you something that struck me while one night looking at the moon-and that is I believe that it was the archetype for the yin-yang symbol as it cor- rectly should be! If you view it about 3/4 up from the hor- izon(?-not sure),in full moon phase, you should see it. The symbol correctly should look like two connected commas with the head of the black one on the bottom left and the head of the white one top right-this is because yin means left and under, and yang means right and above. I believe an ancient Chinaman saw this and related it to The Tao or The Way. Sincerely,GS

Thanks for all the information. As a novice student of Wicca, I've run into countless contradictory information concerning names of moons, solstice dates, etc. I appreciate the scientific knowledge you are sharing and specific dates. I wish you had all the new moon dates listed for the next few years. Now that I think about it, I guess I could just subtract from full moons, couldn't I?! I've heard that the Wolf Moon is the one closest to the Winter Solstice. I need to go back and find out if you have the solstice and equinox dates listed for 2002. Maybe those don't really change from year to year since they are based on earth axis tilt?? Its a little beyond me. Those old pagans really had their astronomy down! Thanks again.

Nice page, however, the statement on the Entertainment Trivia page that says that the Donald Duck comics were banned in Finland because he doesn't wear any pants is - of course - plain rubbish, as I guess most people would understand. A correction would be in place, perhaps?-)

Dear Sir:I am greatly impressed by your picture of the Leonid meteors and that fireball. Would you give me permission to download that picture, print it on photographic paper, and I would certainly welcome suggestions about paper quality. I woulld dearly love to give this picture to my niece and her new husband on their wedding day which falls on the predicted adate of the Leonids.Or would it be possible to purchase a print from you.Thank you,Mary Ann SesmaPyrpyr@aol.com

Mankind does not need to light up everything. Man should be educaited on how to live without bright lights. In fact a bright street light in a rural area would attract crime, not reduce it. You are after all lghting up yourself and anyon that goes by there is attracted to the light, where before, they would not have noticed. I can garentee that these bright lights in rural areas will cause a rise in crime and attacks

hello i looked at your website and saw that you were interested in space! I was wondering if you would like to check out a website? http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/ just take a couple of seconds to read about the project. To start with you don't have to know anything about science to help if you find it interesting...download the program and then join our team. at http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/stats/team/team_81117.html and click on join. Your S.E.T.I. units will count for yourself and they will go to our team and help us beat a local school (which results in us getting a pizza party paid by the other school :) ) You can also help by sending any suggestions you have on different ways i could use this program with my class. if you have any more questions please email me i want to say thank you for your time on behalf of the my class and our team have a great day! Hello, i just wanted to let you know that i really enjoyed your website! i was just wondering...on your full moon calender, you typed down a full moon on Oct. 2001 on the 2nd and the 31..........but on your full moon calender for halloween, you forgot to add the year 2001 on it, since there is a full moon on Halloween this year. But again, your website is really good!

I see you've put a load of work into it. Great job and a lot of interesting facts. Just a couple of points; You said, "The new moon can not be seen because the illuminated side faces away from the earth. This occurs when the Moon lines up between the Earth and the Sun". Isn't that a solar eclipse? I think a new moon occurs when the earth is between sun and moon (?) I found my DOB occurred on a "halloween" day full moon!

This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks! I just bought a Meade ETX-70 and the fun is only starting. BTW, can you tell me if one can see the new moon using a sun filter? I've viewed the sun using the filter and telescope but only tonight found out about the new moon and sun. Thanks again, Keith

I explored one of the web sites that you have listed in my e-mail and I checked out my moon weight. That was really fascinating. I would love to know how you can calculate that, is it similar to the equation D=m over v or am I totally wrong? If you would, could you please write me back and let me know the procedure Thanks again

My third grade class and I use your moon page every year. It's most helpful to us. We do something called a performance package for our science curriculum. Each student researches a moon question and then does a short written report on it. It was difficult to get to this page though because of something in your URL address. The filter on my school computer said that the page held personal info. on it and I had to get permission to get rid of the filter. It would be nice if you could do something to make this page more accessible to teachers as I have reccommended this page to all my other third grade colleagues. Several of them have used this site in the past. It's by far the best moon site I have ever been able to find. Thank you for the great job you've done with it. Sincerely, Dick Sackett, third grade teacher,Cohasset Elem.School,Cohasset Mn.

I seldom sign this type of thing, but I'm going to respond to the "be nice". Just stumbled onto the dark sky maps. They need a little bit more polish (inconsistant from world area to world area, Australia only showed south portion on my screen etc. etc, but otherwise A nice presentation which will lead me to explore the areas near me shown to be "dark" My observations on trying to find dark areas near me agree with your map, but I have found that really dark skys, i.e. where the milky way shows up as a dominant feature of the sky when one looks up, are quite hard to find and one must travel much farther from light producing cities than the maps indicate. I have been astounded how far a cities lights can interfere with the view of the heavens. I am 100% behind you, let's try to keep the skys dark. Light pollution is just as real as air pollution. It has prevented many of us from ever seeing what the skys were really like. Am I nice enough? Rich Patak
