My G. rosea has webbed itself into its artificial
burrow again! This time I took it out to change it's substrate over to
Vermiculite Medium from Sterile Manure/Humus. As soon as I put it in the
tank with the new substrate it seemed to be interested in moving/digging
the substrate. Later that evening it began to web it's artificial burrow
up again. This time it was more elaborate that the last, it actually
has two "walls" of web up between the outside world and it's burrow. In
the back of the burrow it appears as if the spider is excavating a bit
in the bottom. In this instance, there were no crickets involved.

The artificial burrow is a whole flower pot turned
on it's side and partially buried in the substrate. I am considering the
removal of the flower pot to break it in half in case the spider wishes
to dig a burrow in the substrate without hitting the bottom of the flower
pot (deeper burrow).
In my opinion, the spider was having a bit of
difficulty webbing it up this time. The substrate was sticking in the web
every time the spider tried to attach it to the floor of the burrow and
it would essentially just pick up a wad of vermiculite grains and carry
it along with the webbing up towards the top and sides of the burrow.

Maybe they add the grains to the web on purpose?
Before I put the spider into it's new home, I
let it crawl about on me for a few minutes.

And so my best guess is that perhaps the spider
does not like to be handled?? The last two times I have handled the spider
(including this time), it has promptly webbed itself inside the artificial
burrow afterwards.
Perhaps I was wrong about the spider not wishing
to be held.....it added a 3rd layer of web to its "wall" and is now in
the upside down position (which i guess means...MOLT!!!) see pics here----->LINK
