================================= Teen Echo Get-Together FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions http://www.airnet.net/jfuller/teenecho/get-together.html ================================= File Created on: January 16, 1997 File Updated on: January 16, 2000 Welcome to the newest update of the Teen Echo Get-Together FAQ! Some of this information has been available for a while, but it was not finalized. I also have not had a chance, being in college and all, to get this information updated and out to you guys, the general public. That is the goal tonight. :) If you have suggestions for this event, please let us know. (yes, this includes all vets as well as active members). We also HAVE an internet mailing list which is being used for updates concerning the get-together. If you are not on this list and wish to be on it, please contact Jay Fuller (jfuller@airnet.net) , or add yourself at this web address: http://www.onelist.com/subscribe.cgi/fidoteenecho ============ EVENT DATE: ============ June 15-18, 2000 (Thursday - Sunday) =============== EVENT LOCATION: =============== Keystone Campgrounds - Latrobe, Pennsylvania (4 miles off of PA 981) As of the release of this FAQ, the campground has *NOT* confirmed reservations for us because we do not know how many people are coming. If this reservation fails, the attending members will likely attend a motel 6 or something locally, and we will all stay there for $25-$30 a night (hopefully) per person. This information will hopefully be finalized next as a backup plan. =============== ROOM & BOARD =============== This is primarily a campground, which is the general direction most of the interested parties in this event wanted to take. According to our sources, they have outdoor camping as well as cabins with beds, and the outdoor camping has an latrine area. If we stay in a motel, the regular room and board will exist - it'll be like spring break :) =============================== RESPONSIBILITIES: =============================== YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN!!! This event is only giving people a mutual place to meet. We're not going to be responsible for you. You can do what you want, but ANYTHING ILLEGAL will be reported to the authorities...so you might want to think about that before you do it... =============================== General Information / Summary: =============================== This idea was created myself - Jay Fuller, the moderator of Teen Echo, in March of 1996. The goal of this event is to create a setting where many of the participants in the echo, both past and present, could meet each other, face to face, many for the first time, and spend a few days together actually getting to know each other. Bottom line, we're looking to have several days of LEGAL FUN. :) [it does happen, believe it or not] :) There is also hope that, since many of the echo's participants will not be old enough to freely attend this get-together, that there will be plenty of interest to continue this event on a 2 year (or 4 year) basis after this first event takes place in 2000. The first event was SCHEDULED for 1998, but most of the interested parties were not quite 18 yet, so that is the primary reason for the postponment to 2000. Understand all interested parties will NEVER be old enough to attend on their first chance -- this is the TEEN echo, and most teenager's are not allowed a chance to even leave their hometown on their own. The general age for becoming "free" enough to attend the echo get-together on your own is around 18 years old -- once you have graduated from High School. However, this is not a requirement for attendence. Jay Fuller agrees to coordinate the event in 2000, and possibly future events. However, I hope the tradition continues -- even after I depart from Teen Echo. (will that EVER happen? ;-) ) Generally, we'll try to change the location every time we plan another event. Whoever is in charge of events after I turn it over to someone else will decide on the future locations. Suggestions are ALWAYS welcome! :) -Jay Fuller ================ The Committee ================ JAY FULLER is in charge of the 1998-2000 project overall, and is coordinating each "branch". (jfuller@airnet.net) ANDREW SERRANO is the current echo moderator (along with me, of course, who just "hangs" in there, doing nothing....once a month...) and is also an assistant in the main planning of the event. (a_serrano@juno.com) JULIE ANN SCHRIBER is a current participant in the echo who has lived? is living? in the general area that the event is going to be held. She is cordinating with the local area and eventually will be handleing the reservations, et cetera. She is also helping plan the events. (julie-ann.schriber@neverending.com) BECKY WINCHESTER DASARO is an echo "vet!". She is also helping to plan the events. (Where are you Becky??) (becky@pinn.net) =================================== Questions? Answers? =================================== Q: How much money will be recommended? A: This will depend on the length of the event. Based on the location only, we can tell you that as of January, 2000 the price was $8 night, except for a cabin rental, which was extra. The $8 is for a campground rental, or specifically, 2 tents. Q: What kind of places are available for us to stay? A: Keystone Campgrounds houses outdoor camping facilities as well as cabins with beds as listed above. Q: How are we going to get there? A: Once again, everyone will be required to find their own transportation. However, the Latrobe airport is a short 30 minutes from Keystone. Jay Fuller will make one trip in his car (which can currently seat 5 with luggage) to the airport to "bus" people. If enough people show interest, we might look into another busing service. However, you will be responsible for that cost (only if you use it and it actually is available). We have also looked into some fares for busing, planes, et cetera. Current September, 1998, a fare from a small community (Cullman, AL) to "Harrisburg, Pittsburg, or Philly" was around $121. There was a also a student discount available as well as other promotional packages. Q: How can we ACT? A: You're teenagers....nearly adults. We expect you to act that way, but we're not going to force you. We're not going to babysit you - we're not even wanting to RUN this thing when we get there...we simply want to PARTICIPATE. Therefore, keep this advice in mind. The folks planning this thing want to meet YOU - NOW. Not the drunk you....we want to meet you - the same you that we see in TEENECHO every day. We're likely to be "loose' on this like we are in the echo, basically because most of the folks who wish to attend feel we should be loose. But...remember, if things get out of hand...ya don't issue warnings in real life. :) You call the police. -=) ======================================= Most Recent Proposed Schedule Of Events ======================================= DAY 1 = - Opening (information, introductions...schedule, etc) Anyone who wishes to make a speech can. ;) Truth or DARE :) DAY 2 = - Group swimming - Group movie DAY 3 = - Water gun fight! - Classic Rock / Oldies Dance Anyone who wishes to DJ this can! DAY 4 = - Group hug :) Q3: WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO DO? Let us know....jfuller@airnet.net =) (events committee: Keystone has a lake and beach there too.. So there's something to do.. Plus there's a water amusement park not all that far from the campgrounds. Keep in mind we want to do something with each OTHER.....not tour the countryside. :) ) ...obviously we can't plan everything now. We're not going to schedule every single minute either. You're going to be on your own to do whatever...for the most part - kind of like a band trip! ;) -- we've scheduled things we think you will enjoy, and we're still brainstorming. Eventually, we'll set times to these events...but for now, we're just brainstorming.) --Jay Fuller jfuller@airnet.net Jay Fuller, Fidonet address 1:3607/22.0
