PYRANHA
WHITEWATER KAYAKS

What kind of kayak is right for me?

This question has become difficult to answer as the designs and technology of whitewater kayaks have evolved. In the past boaters options were limited. Now designs have specialized so you can get the boat specifically suited to your needs.

The three basic categories of whitewater kayaks are racing, creeking and playboating. Race boats are designed for both slalom and wildwater racing with speed being one of the main design elements in each. Creek boats are designed to be forgiving, maneuverable and stable in extreme situations. Rodeo boats are designed to offer the boater access to an increasing number of moves in the holes, waves, and eddy lines of the river. If you want one or the other your decision is easy. But if you want a combination - a cross over boat - the decision can become a little complicated.

Most manufacturers offer creek boats, rodeo boats and something for general river running. At Pyranha we offer you each of these options with a choice in each category. One size doesn't fit all. If you weigh 100 pounds you probably don't need the same creek boat as someone weighing 200 pounds. Thats why Pyranha makes the Mountain 300 and it's smaller counterpart, the Creek 280. Our radical hull design gives our creek boats speed and carvability unparalleled in any other creek boat.

Pyranha's boat designs have led the field. Our Acrobat 270 has set the standard for rodeo boats. It is still one of the hottest production playboats on the market, hands down. Still a 220 pound person doesn't need the same playboat as someone who weighs 120 pounds. Because of this we have recently introduced a new boat, our Stunt 300. It not only offers the bigger boater a better playboat but it enables people who want a general river running boat a better option. Check back later for the newest freestyle sensation sure to cause emotional discomfort for other boat makers and new dimensions of fun for you.

And we still make the ultimate extreme fun boat, the Migo 230. It's hot.

Paddle boats. No matter how much you research boat choices there is nothing that will tell you as much as getting out and paddling the boat. Boat the most. Ask questions.
