My daughter has liked trains since she was two years old, so I got into trains. Our first train was one of those battery powered trains that people buy to go around their Christmas tree. Then I began to dabble in modeling trains, and I put together a set of trains for Hannah's fifth birthday with a custom decorated steam engine and caboose. We didn't miss many years that we rode on a train somewhere. We have ridden excursion trains in Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, and North Carolina.
One of my daughter's favorite places to go in Huntsville, was the old Southern Depot. When she was little she loved to ring the bell on the old steam engine and play in the Norfolk Western caboose.
My favorite railroad is the old Southern Railroad.  Following are a few Southern Railway related web sites that I have found. If you know of any others, please let me know. jpkilpat@hiwaay.net
